Editor’s note: Winter Roundup will be a recurring notebook featuring all winter sports, except for boys and girls basketball.
WRESTLING: Senior Aidan McKeag established a Loyola program record for career wins Saturday at Wheeling’s quadrangular. His 111th victory — by technical fall over Crystal Lake South’s Ethan Nabong — supplanted Sean Cloherty (Class of 2018) on the all-time list.
McKeag (22-5) and the Ramblers compete against De La Salle and St. Laurence today.
BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING: Loyola junior Luke Maurer won two events Saturday at Evanston’s invitational to lead Loyola to fifth place at the 18-team meet, featuring many of the state’s best teams.
Maurer finished first in 100-yard freestyle in 46.59 seconds and first in the 200 freestyle (1:42.74) as the Ramblers totaled 182 points. Neuqua Valley won the event with 289 points.
Loyola junior Everet Andrew won the 500 free (4:40.83) and took second in the 200 free (1:42.92).
Andrew and Maurer teamed up with senior Ben Dukes and freshman Demetri Zemenides to place second in the 400 free relay (3:15.71).
The Ramblers’ 200 free relay team of Andrew, Dukes, Maurer and freshman Andrew Lachlan finished fourth in 1:29.01.
Loyola competes at the MCAC meet Feb. 1.
