BOYS HOCKEY: After capturing the program’s first state championship since 1996 last season, Loyola Gold has a chance to make it two titles in row following Monday’s 4-2 win over Providence Catholic at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

Cooper Prawdzik’s goal with 2 minutes, 45 seconds to go in the second period proved to be the game-winner, securing the Ramblers’ spot at the United Center, where they will play New Trier Green on March 22.

In the last meeting between the two teams, Loyola beat the Trevians 2-0 to capture the Scholastic Hockey League championship. New Trier earned its way to the United Center with a 5-1 win over Saint Viator on Monday.

Drew Buck and Matthew Schauwecker each scored in the first period to stake the Ramblers to a 2-0 lead. The Celtics tied it at 2-all early in the second before Prawdzik punched one in late in the period to make it 3-2.

Jake Gonzalez added an insurance goal at the 15:53 mark of the third for the final margin.

Matthew Choate made 25 saves.

GIRLS WRESTLING: Loyola sophomore Zoe Crecos took third place Sunday at the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association’s state tournament at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. She finished fourth as a freshman.
