Loyola lacrosse alums win awards: Former high school teammates — and cousins — Marquette junior Erin Dowdle (Class of 2016) and Northwestern sophomore Brennan Dwyer (Class of 2017) both were honored by their conferences.

A midfielder, Dwyer earned first team All-Big Ten after leading the league in draw controls during the regular season. She was named the conference’s defensive player of the week Tuesday.

Dowdle was selected to second team All-Big East. She anchored Marquette’s defense by finishing first on the team in groundballs and caused turnovers.

The Golden Eagles ended their season Thursday with a 17-10 loss to Georgetown in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Loyola graduate Laine Dolan (Class of 2015) closed out her college career in that game. Loyola alums Mary Dooley (Class of 2017) and Madison Kane (Class of 2017) also play for Marquette.

Northwestern, the No. 5-ranked team in the country, opens the Big Ten tournament today against Michigan.
