GIRLS SOCCER: Junior midfielder Meredith Phillips scored four goals Wednesday as the Ramblers earned a 7-0 win over Lincoln Park in the Class 3A regional semifinals at Loyola. The Ramblers, the No. 5 seed at New Trier’s sectional, play Maine South in the regional final Friday.
Phillips scored the first three goals to help Loyola to a 4-0 lead at the half. She scored the first goal of the second half to make it 5-0. Freshmen Kathryn Diblik, Grace Ehlert and Kaitlyn Kurtz all scored one goal apiece.
Unbeaten in its last five games, Loyola (10-6-3) is looking for its 11th regional title in a row.
SOFTBALL: Emily Molloy (pictured above) and KK Raymond both went 4-for-4 and each scored four runs to power the Ramblers to a 14-1 win over New Trier in five innings at home Wednesday. Raymond contributed three RBIs.
Kathryn Kinsella finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Marisa went 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Loyola’s first four batters were 12-for-13 with 11 runs scored and eight RBIs.
Nyah Moore, No. 6 in the order, had two hits and three RBIs. The Ramblers went 16-for-27 as a team.
Mackenzie Barry earned the win, striking out six in three innings. Kinsella struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief.
Loyola (19-7) finishes the regular season at home Friday against Fenton. A win gives the Ramblers their second consecutive 20-win season. They start the Class 4A state tournament Tuesday at Niles West’s regional. Loyola is the No. 3 seed at Niles West’s sectional.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Sophomore Sloan Trapp scored a season-best four goals to go with one assist Wednesday in the Ramblers’ 18-2 win over Marist at home in the final game of the regular season.
Senior Maggie Gorman contributed three goals and two assists in the team’s 16th consecutive victory. Freshman Maeve Dwyer had two goals and one assist. Senior Marie Ponzi (2 goals), senior Emily Doell (1 goal, 1 assist), sophomore Ellie Lazzaretto (1 goal, 1 assist) and freshman Maeve Dooley (1 goal, 1 assist) all contributed on offense.
Loyola (23-1) opens the state tournament Monday at Resurrection’s sectional. The Ramblers, who are undefeated against in-state opponents, are the No. 1 seed.
BASEBALL: Senior Jack Moran extended his hitting streak to six games Wednesday by going 2-for-2 in an 8-3 loss to Downers Grove South at home. He’s 8-for-17 during the stretch, raising his batting average to .303 for the season.
The Ramblers trailed 3-0 after two innings and never caught up as they lost for the sixth time in a row.
Senior Jake Novak had two hits and now has 10 multiple-hit games,
Loyola (12-14) plays at Glenbrook North on Thursday and hosts Evanston on Saturday. The Ramblers end the regular season Monday at home against Palatine. They open the Class 4A state tournament May 22 at Niles North’s regional. Loyola is the No. 4 seed at its own sectional.
