BASEBALL: The Ramblers couldn’t hold on to a three-run lead after six innings Monday in a 9-7 loss to Notre Dame at home. The Dons, who lost to Loyola in last year’s Class 4A regional final, scored four of their five runs in the top of seventh with two outs. 

Loyola had the tying run on first base with one out, but Notre Dame struck out the next two batters to end the game. 

Junior Ryan Nevins finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Senior Jake Novak had one hit, two RBIs and one run. Senior Jack Moran had one hit and two runs. Senior Patrick Neenan contributed one hit and one run, while junior Colin Summerhill had one hit and one RBI. 

The Ramblers (12-12) have four more games this week. They are home Tuesday against Fremd, at home Wednesday against Downers Grove South, on the road Thursday against Glenbrook North and at home Saturday against Evanston. Loyola closes out the regular season Monday at home against Palatine. 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Senior outside hitter Jack Howard totaled 62 kills, including 26 in the semifinals, as the Ramblers took third place in the top flight at Evanston’s invitational by beating the host Wildkits 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday. 

Howard had nine kills, while senior middle Gavin Elliott added two kills and three blocks. Junior middle Mukthar Abdul totaled four kills and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Henry Clemons (3 kills), junior middle Liam Roberts (3 blocks), junior setter John Hitt (15 assists), junior libero Tommy Dorgan (2 aces) and sophomore libero Ryan Merk (4 digs) also contributed to the win. 

After winning all three games in pool play in straight sets, Loyola lost to Boylan Catholic 30-28, 22-25, 25-23 despite 26 kills from Howard and 31 digs from Merk. 

Merk finished with 60 digs in five games. Elliott had 22 kills and 10 blocks, while Clemson contributed 32 kills. 

The Ramblers (26-7) wrap up the regular season this week. They host Glenbrook South on Tuesday and are at home against Oak Park-River Forest on Thursday.
