GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: Senior Addison Bendery advanced to the Class 3A state meet in the 100 meters by running a state-qualifying time of 12.49 seconds Thursday at Loyola’s sectional. She also helped the 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams qualify for the state meet, which is Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. 

Bendery was joined by Arinna Awdisho, Nora Lyons and Anne Santangelo on the 4×200 team that clocked a 1:44.97. The 4×400 foursome that ran a 4:04.17 consisted of Bendery, Awdisho, Santangelo and Lizzie Quackenbush.

Quackenbush qualified as part of the 4×800 relay team with Avery Kaye, Sarah Jay and Jenna Rekoske. The quartet finished in 9:36.05. 

BOYS WATER POLO: For the second season in a row, Loyola ended the year with a loss to Evanston in the sectional semifinals. The Wildkits beat the Ramblers 8-7 in overtime Friday to advance to the final at Glenbrook North. 

Senior Kenny Sanjaj scored four goals for the Ramblers (19-11). 

GIRLS LACROSSE: The Ramblers beat Montini 18-2 on Friday for their 14th win in a row. 

As expected, Loyola (21-1) received the No. 1 seed at the Resurrection Sectional. The Ramblers open the postseason May 20 against either Taft or Resurrection. 

BASEBALL: The Ramblers lost another close one Thursday, falling to St. Laurence 3-1 on the road in the final game of the Catholic Blue schedule. The Vikings scored two in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory. Four of Loyola’s seven league losses came by two runs or less.

Junior Andrew Smart went 2-for-3 and hit his second home run of the season, both of which came this week. Senior Jack Moran and senior Jake Novak each finished with two hits apiece.

Junior right-hander Thomas Schafer allowed one run and two hits in five innings.

Loyola (12-11, 5-7) plays at St. Ignatius on Saturday.
