BASEBALL: In a continuation of Monday’s game that was suspended due to darkness, the Ramblers lost to Mount Carmel 7-6 in 11 innings in Chicago. Three of Loyola’s six losses in the Catholic Blue have been by two runs or less. The Ramblers (12-10, 5-6) close out the conference schedule today on the road against St. Laurence, the No. 1-ranked team in the state by Prep Baseball Report.
Senior Jake Novak went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the loss to the Caravan. Junior Ryan Nevins finished 3-for-4, while junior Colin Summerhill was 2-for-6. Junior Mikey Badnarik had one hit and scored two runs. Junior Andrew Smart hit a home run.
The Ramblers left 15 runners on base, including one in scoring position with one out in the 11th.
Loyola received the No. 4 seed at its own Class 4A sectional and opens the state series May 22 at Niles North’s regional.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Freshman Maeve Dwyer scored a season-high four goals to go with one assist Wednesday in the Ramblers’ 16-6 win over Glenbrook South on the road. Dwyer is the granddaughter of Loyola head coach John Dwyer.
Senior Emily Doell, senior Maggie Gorman, sophomore Ellie Lazzaretto and sophomore Maley Starr all scored two goals. Starr also contributed two assists. Junior Sophia Rucker finished with one goal and two assists.
Winners of 12 in a row, the Ramblers (19-1) remained undefeated against in-state opponents. They end the regular season today at home against Regina Dominican.
GIRLS WATER POLO: The Ramblers ended their season Wednesday with a 6-5 loss to Glenbrook South in the quarterfinals of the Glenbrook North Sectional.
