Looking for a second consecutive state championship, Loyola Gold couldn’t get its offense going Friday in a 2-0 loss to New Trier Green at the United Center in Chicago.
The Trevians (61-7-1) scored both of their goals in the second period. The first one resulted after a rebound in front of the net, and the second came on a 5-on-3 power play at the 3:25 mark.
New Trier outshot the Ramblers 33-14, but Loyola senior goalie Matt Choate kept it close throughout.
This was the first time since 2009 Loyola (49-13-0) and New Trier played in the state final. The Trevians won four the six meetings between the two teams this season.
