WATER POLO: Senior John Merucci and sophomore goalie Jake Carr led Loyola to a 4-0 record and the tournament title at Palatine last weekend.
In the team’s 10-6 win over Curie on Saturday, Merucci had two goals, three assists and two steals, while Carr finished with six saves and two steals. Merucci finished with 13 goals for the tournament, while Carr had 37 saves and allowed only 20 goals.
Senior Tony Spallone scored a team-best three goals against Curie, and senior Charlie Friedman had one goal and three assists. Sophomore Noah Zahn scored both of his goals in the second quarter to help the Ramblers to a 10-5 lead at intermission.
Spallone finished the tournament with nine goals, and sophomore Kevin Considine totaled eight goals in four games.
The Ramblers opened with a 15-4 win over Mundelein before beating Palatine 15-6 and St. Ignatius 9-4.
Winners of five in a row, Loyola (5-1) plays at St. Ignatius on Monday in an MCAC game.

After starting the season 0-3, the Ramblers beat Sandburg and Prospect on Saturday at New Trier’s tournament.
