SOFTBALL: Senior right-hander Alexis Rocha (pictured above) struck out the final two batters Wednesday to cap a complete-game shutout in the Ramblers’ 2-0 win over Glenbrook North in the Class 4A regional semifinals at Loyola.
Rocha finished with strikeouts and surrendered five hits — all singles — and one walk. The defense behind her played didn’t commit an error.
At the plate, the Ramblers did enough.
Senior Nora Conway scored the first run with crafty baserunning. With the bases loaded and one out, Glenbrook North got a force out at home. The catcher was unable to complete the double play at first base, and Conway scored from second.
“I saw no one was covering home, so I went for it,” she said.
Marisa Michi delivered an insurance run in the sixth with a two-out single that scored Riley Bendery.
“When we play good defense and get good pitching, we are winning games,” Loyola head coach Michelle Farrell-Fink said. “We also were smart on the basepaths and were able to take advantage of some situations. Nora scoring that run was big.”
KK Raymond went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Kathryn Kinsella had two hits.
