GIRLS WATER POLO: Senior captain Lauren Voss (pictured above) scored six goals and had one assist Friday to lead the Ramblers to an 11-5 win over Conant in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at Stevenson, sending Loyola to the semis for the first time since 2009.

The Ramblers (20-12) play Fenwick on Saturday. The Friars own two wins over Loyola this season, beating the Ramblers 9-7 in the MCAC tournament May 5 and 16-8 in the season opener March 5.

Against Conant, Loyola led 8-3 at the half and 9-4 after three quarters. Junior Aidan Koconis-O’Malley contributed two goals to the win. Senior captain Sarah Pinkerton finished with one goal and one assist, while senior captain Nicole Kielba had one goal. Junior Grace Kern scored one goal.

Naperville North and Stevenson play in the other semifinal.

BOYS TENNIS: Ever since his freshman season at Loyola, Andy Paden’s mission was to play at the state tournament.

The senior captain, playing doubles with junior Jack Livaditis, achieved his goal Friday by putting away an overhead winner to punctuate a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Evanston at the Class 2A Niles North Sectional to advance to the semifinals.

“That final point is one I’ve been waiting to win my entire career,” Paden said. “It was a great way to get to the state tournament.”

The top four in singles players and doubles teams at the sectionals qualify for the state tournament. Paden/Livaditis play New Trier in Saturday’s semis.

Senior Alan Arocho and the doubles team of seniors Daly Frost and Tommy Sullivan also won twice Friday to move on to the state tournament.

This is Loyola’s most state qualifiers since 2013 when the Ramblers also sent three.

GIRLS SOCCER: Junior Sammie Holton’s goal off a pass from senior Stephanie Ramsay sent the Ramblers to a 1-0 win in overtime over Lane Tech in Friday’s Class 3A regional final at Niles North. It was the program’s 10th regional title in a row.

The No. 2 seed at the Glenbrook South Sectional, Loyola (19-1-3) plays either No. 3 Glenbrook South or No. 5 Glenbrook North in the sectional sectionals Tuesday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: The Ramblers didn’t advance any of their five entries to Saturday’s finals of the Class 3A state meet at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium in Charleston.

The closest they came was the 4×200-meter relay team of senior Jackie Topping, senior Brooke Moran, junior Addison Bendery and junior Arianna Awdisho. The foursome finished with a time of 1 minute, 43.54 to place 12th on Friday. The top nine in relays qualify for the finals. The last team to move on ran a 1:42.83.

SOFTBALL: The Ramblers finished the regular season at home Friday with a 13-1 win over Fenton in five innings. Loyola (19-8) is the No. 6 seed at the Class 4A Warren Sectional and opens the postseason Tuesday against No. 11 Glenbrook North in the regional semifinals at home.

The Nos. 1-2-3 hitters in the order got it done Friday. Leadoff batter KK Raymond had two hits to go with two runs scored. Nora Conway had two hits and three runs scored, while Emily Molloy totaled two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Alexis Rocha and Caroline Kinsella teamed up for 10 strikeouts in the circle.
