BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: Senior Declan Ritzenthaler (pictured above) was the Ramblers’ lone state qualifier at Thursday’s Class 3A Loyola Sectional. He finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 15 feet, 3 inches to advance in the event for the third consecutive season. Ritzenthaler finished 14th as a sophomore.
Several Ramblers had close calls. Senior Luke Phillips took third in the 800 in 1 minute, 59.17 seconds, and junior Jack Loveland was third in the 400 (51.64).
The top two in each event automatically qualify for the state meet as well as those athletes and relays surpassing the state standards.
Senior Jack McCall had a good day, finishing fourth in the 100 (11.23), sixth in the 200 (22.98) and sixth in the long jump (20-2).
The 4×400 relay team of sophomore Greyson Schneider, senior Connor Mocny, senior Marc Daly and Phillips placed fifth in 3:35.23.
The Ramblers were eighth as a team with 31 points. Evanston finished first with 110 points.
BASEBALL: The Ramblers beat Glenbrook North 9-1 at home Thursday to win their third game in a row.
Senior right-hander Henry Haracz allowed one unearned one run in six innings while striking out five. Junior left-hander Jake Novak pitched a scoreless seventh.
Senior Jack Moran had two hits to go with one RBI and one run scored. Senior Trey Torain had one hit and two RBIs.
Loyola (18-9-1) plays at Evanston on Saturday before closing out the regular season at home Monday against Palatine. The No. 4 seed at the Class 4A Loyola Sectional, the Ramblers open the playoffs Wednesday against either No. 13 Leyden or No. 20 Mather in the regional semifinals at Notre Dame.
SOFTBALL: Senior Alexis Rocha struck out nine in seven innings Thursday to help the Ramblers to a 6-1 win over Whitney Young at The Ballpark in Rosemont. The run she surrendered was unearned.
Senior Nora Conway hit a two-run home run as part of a four-run sixth. She finished with two hits and two runs scored. Marisa Michi had two hits and an RBI, while KK Raymond finished with one hit and two RBIs.
The Ramblers (18-8) play Fenton at home Friday in the final game of the regular season. They will recognize the seniors before the game. Loyola concluded the GCAC Red schedule Wednesday with a 6-0 loss to Mother McAuley in Chicago. The Ramblers went 6-8 in league play.
Loyola, the No 6 seed at the Class 4A Warren Sectional, opens the postseason Tuesday. The Ramblers play No. 11 Glenbrook North in the regional semifinals at Loyola.
BOYS LACROSSE: Junior Timothy Hackett had four goals and two assists and senior Quinn Callahan contributed two goals and one assist Thursday as the Ramblers finished the regular season with a 12-7 win over St. Rita in Chicago. Loyola finished 6-0 in the Catholic League to win the conference championship.
Loyola (16-3) is the top seed at the Maine South Sectional and opens the playoffs Monday against either No. 8 Taft or No. 9 Northside
