BOYS LACROSSE: Senior Quinn Callahan scored a team-best five goals and senior Quinn Cashion had six groundballs and four caused turnovers in the Ramblers’ 19-5 win over Glenbrook North on Tuesday in Northbrook.
It was Loyola’s third consecutive victory since dropping two in a row, including a 5-3 defeat to New Trier on May 1. The Ramblers (15-3) wrap up the regular on the road Thursday against St. Rita.
“We are still working to eliminate the little, silly mistakes,” Loyola head coach Rob Snyder said. “I think we are learning, but we can always get better.”
Senior Andrew Forsyth finished with four points (3 goals, 1 assist) against the Spartans. Junior Mike Feuer had four goals, junior Nolan Chow had two goals and two assists and sophomore Kaden Keller contributed four assists.
Loyola, the top seed at the Maine South Sectional, opens the playoffs Monday against either No. 8 Taft or No. 9 Northside.
GIRLS SOCCER: Six players scored as the Ramblers opened the Class 3A state tournament Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Von Steuben in the regional semifinals at Niles North. Loyola, the second seed at the Glenbrook South Sectional, plays either Lane or Niles North on Friday in the regional final.
Senior Stephanie Ramsay, senior Cate Shellenback, junior Maggie Brett and sophomore Vanessa Murray all scored in the first half to stake the Ramblers to a 4-0 lead. Sophomores Claire Cashion and Alex Guzzardo both scored in the second half.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Ramblers (18-1-3) and their 11th shutout of the season.
SOFTBALL: Senior Nora Conway (pictured above) delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to carry the Ramblers to a 9-8 win over Maine South at home.
The Hawks scored five runs in their half of the seventh to take the lead.
Loyola got its first two batters on base after Kathryn Kinsella was hit by a pitch and Nyah Moore had a single. Anna Rempe moved the runners to second and third before Conway came through with the game-winning hit.
Conway went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Marisa Michi finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs. She hit a two-run home run in the first. KK Raymond had two hits.
The Ramblers (17-7, 6-7 GCAC Red) play at Mother McAuley on Wednesday in the final game of the conference schedule. They play Whitney Young at The Ballpark in Rosemont on Thursday before finishing the regular season at home Friday against Fenton.
Loyola, the No. 6 seed at the Class 4A Warren Sectional, opens the postseason Tuesday. The Ramblers play No. 11 Glenbrook North in the regional semifinals at Loyola.
GIRLS WATER POLO: The Ramblers were well-represented on the Glenbrook South all-sectional team. Senior Lauren Voss was selected to the first team, while junior Aidan Koconis-O’Malley was named to the second team and senior Sarah Pinkerton to the third team.
Loyola’s Kim Przekota was recognized as the sectional’s coach of the year. The 19 wins are the most in Przekota’s four seasons with the Ramblers. They are guaranteed their fourth consecutive winning season with her in charge.
The Ramblers (19-12) play Conant on Friday in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. It’s the program’s first appearance since 2013. Loyola finished fourth in 2009.
