BOYS TENNIS: After taking second last year, the Ramblers returned to the top of the Catholic League on Friday by winning the conference meet. Loyola totaled 37 points to beat out defending champion St. Ignatius, which finished second with 28.

Seniors Alan Arocho and Jonah Wheeland (pictured above) both finished first in singles, while the doubles team of seniors Daly Frost and Thomas Sullivan also captured a conference championship.

Junior Ryan Reardon took second in singles, and the doubles team of senior Andy Paden and junior Patrick Lawler placed third.

Loyola competes at the Class 2A Niles North Sectional on Friday and Saturday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: The Ramblers went 4-1 to take second at Evanston’s invitational last weekend. Loyola lost to Deerfield 25-11, 25-18 in the final of the championship bracket Saturday. Junior Jack Howard had a team-best seven kills, and senior Drake Johnson added six kills. Sophomore John Hitt finished with 10 assists, while freshman Ryan Merk had 11 digs.

In Loyola’s 22-25, 25-16, 25-15 win over Lane Tech in the semifinals, Howard had 16 kills and two blocks. Johnson totaled eight kills and two blocks, while senior Nick Howard had four kills and two blocks. Senior Matt Wiertel had four kills, and senior Clark Winkler had three blocks. Senior Rees Gray had 17 assists, and Hitt had 15 assists. Merk finished with 16 digs.

The Ramblers went 3-0 in pool play with two-set wins over Zion-Benton, Lakes and Huntley.

Loyola will recognize its seniors Ethan Rowe, Jesse Tandoc, Declan Tom, Gray, Howard, Johnson, Wiertel and Winkler on Monday before it plays DePaul Prep. The Ramblers close out the regular season Wednesday at Glenbrook South.
