Freshman Zoe Crecos will compete Saturday at the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association’s freshman and sophomore girls state tournament at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. She will wrestle in the 122-pound division. The tournament concludes Sunday.
After going undefeated against girls during the regular season and leading the Loyola freshman team in wins, Crecos qualified for the state tournament by going 3-1 at the sectional. All three of her victories were by fall.
Loyola head coach Joe Haney said Crecos is a contender for a state title. Regardless of the outcome this weekend, she already is the most successful girls wrestler in school history, according to Loyola athletic director Pat Mahoney.
