Loyola 16, Phillips 8

GAME RECAP: Vaughn Pemberton scored two touchdowns, and the defense held late as the Ramblers rallied from behind to start the season with a win Friday over the Wildcats in Chicago.

Quarterbacks Perrion McClinton JT Thomas led Loyola on a 10-play, 85-yard scoring drive on the team’s first possession. Owen Boos made a 30-yard reception before Pemberton punched it in from 5 yards out.

The Ramblers went into the half up 7-2, but Phillips took an 8-7 lead in the third quarter. Loyola answered with an 80-yard TD run by Pemberton for a 13-8 advantage later in the third.

The Ramblers added some insurance with Patrick Brennan’s 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for a 16-8 lead. Loyola’s defense — headlined by Sean Baum, Jason Kusibab, Dan Naselli and Anthony Sherman — then thwarted a potential game-tying drive.
