The Loyola women’s Varsity 1 boat won its division last weekend at the Midwest Scholastic Championship on Dillon Lake in Nashport, Ohio.
The crew was comprised of senior coxswain Jane Harris and seniors Maddie Ball, Jacqueline Bigus, Haley Flanagan, Eleanor Funck, Mary McDermott, Emily Molins, Madeline Quackenbush and Kate Schumacher.
With the victory, the V1 boat qualified for the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s national regatta May 25-26 on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.
The top four in V1 and the top three in V2 advance to the national regatta.
Loyola’s Varsity 2 boat also finished first at the Midwest Scholastic Championship. The team included freshman coxswain Liam Braasch, senior Stephanie Collins, junior Allison Abeles, junior Katherine Carroll, junior Fiona Wardrop, junior Alexandra Petrozzi, sophomore Lauren Hering and sophomore Sophie Molins.
The men’s V1 boat took third in Ohio. It featured senior coxswain Blake Bernstein, senior Jack Hare, senior Luis Mendez, senior Peter Schlax, senior Jack Smith, senior Patrick Sullivan, senior Ryan Tully, junior Benjamin Dukes and junior Chris Donovan.
The men’s JV boat finished third with sophomore coxswain Denny Yoo, junior Patrick Beale-DelVecchio, junior Andrew Locke, sophomore Jack Dietmeier, sophomore Jerry Malloy, sophomore Aidan McCarthy, sophomore Thomas Sullivan and sophomore Ethan Torain.
Both men’s teams qualified for the national regatta in New Jersey.
