Seniors Daly Frost and Thomas Sullivan earned a 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 (tiebreaker) at No. 1 doubles to lead Loyola to a 3-2 win over St. Ignatius at XS Tennis Village in Chicago.
Sullivan said the key was toning down the aggressiveness in the deciding set.
“We were more careful and not going for too much,” he said. “We wanted to limit our mistakes.”
In their first season as partners, Frost and Sullivan have one loss.
“So far, it’s going well,” Frost said.
Junior Ryan Reardon earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, and senior Jonah Wheeland won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Senior Andy Paden, who usually plays No. 1 doubles, lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of juniors Michael McFadden and Michael Reardon lost 6-3, 6-3. Elia Daoud said.
The Ramblers are 4-0 in the Catholic League. Loyola plays Latin on Saturday at the Waveland Park tennis courts in Chicago.
