Senior forward Pete Mangan scored a career-high 19 points Tuesday to lead Loyola to a 69-31 win over Hersey in the Class 4A regional semifinals at Maine South.
The No. 4 at the Maine East Sectional, the Ramblers (23-6) had no trouble with No. 14 Huskies (10-18). They led 23-10 after the first quarter, 44-14 at the half and took a 59-21 advantage into the fourth.
Loyola plays No. 5 Maine South on Friday in the regional final. The Hawks (22-7) beat No. 12 Niles West (12-14) 61-42 in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Junior guard Connor Barrett scored all 15 of his points in the first half. Sophomore forward Bennett Kwiecinski contributed 10 points, and senior guard Kevin Cunningham added nine points.
One of the game’s highlights came in the second quarter when Cunningham blocked a shot, corralled the loose ball and threw a long pass to Mangan for a layup.
