Senior catcher Jason Vrbancic hit a two-run home run in the first, and senior starter Henry Haracz went four shutout innings to lead Loyola to a 5-0 win over St. Patrick in the season opener Sunday at Kerry Wood Field in Chicago.
The Ramblers (1-0) scored all five of their runs in the opening inning, which was more than enough for the right-handed Haracz, who struck out six and allowed one hit. Junior left-hander Joe McKermitt pitched three innings of scoreless of relief.
Junior DH Sean McLaughlan went 1-for-3, driving in two runs with a two-out single. Senior left fielder Matthew Raymond hit a run-scoring double.
Loyola continues its busy first week Monday at home against Niles North. The Ramblers play at Niles West on Wednesday, at home against Taft on Thursday and host De La Salle on Saturday.
