Sean Cloherty started his senior season by going undefeated at Vernon Hills’ tournament Friday and Saturday.

Cloherty won all 10 of his matches in the round-robin, dual-meet format. Junior Aidan McKeag went 9-1. McKeag was one of two Ramblers to qualify for the Class 3A sectionals last season. Andrew Gonzalez graduated.

Without their full lineup at Vernon Hills, the Ramblers finished 2-8, but they wrestled .500 or better against nine of the 10 teams they faced, according to Loyola head coach Joe Haney.

Loyola beat Hoffman Estates 36-21 and Ridgewood 38-18.

Other notable Ramblers last weekend included junior John Michael Kelly, who finished 8-2. Senior Trenton Bismonte went 7-3 after going 2-8 at the tournament a year ago. Senior Andrew Bish was 5-5.

Loyola opens the Catholic League schedule Thursday against Brother Rice and Leo at Brother Rice.
