GIRLS SOCCER: Sophomore forward Maggie Brett’s goal with 5 minutes, 27 seconds to go in the second half proved to be the game-winner in Loyola’s 2-1 win over Evanston in the Class 3A sectional semifinals at Glenbrook North on Tuesday. The second-seeded Wildkits ended Loyola’s season in the same round a year ago. It was the 11th win in a row for the Ramblers (18-6). “I have no words,” Brett said. “This is so cool to be a part of.” Loyola, the third seed, plays top-seeded New Trier on Friday for the sectional title. The Trevians beat the Ramblers 3-0 on April 15. Junior forward Stephanie Ramsay scored the game’s first goal, and the two teams went into the half tied at 1-all. Junior goalkeeper Maggie Avery, the star in Loyola’s regional final on Friday, made several key saves to give the offense a chance to win it.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: The Ramblers set up a rematch with Glenbrook South by beating Fenton 25-12, 25-10 in the regional semifinals at Loyola on Tuesday. Loyola, the No. 6 seed at the New Trier Sectional, plays the third-seeded Titans on Wednesday for the regional title. Glenbrook South beat the Ramblers (21-15) 25-18, 25-20 in the final game of the regular season May 18. In the win over No. 11 Fenton, sophomore outside hitter Jack Howard had eight kills and three blocks. Junior right-side hitter Drake Johnson added four kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Matt Byrne had three aces, and senior setter Jim Dunbar finished with 17 assists.

GIRLS LACROSSE: The top-seeded Ramblers advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament with a 19-3 win Monday over St. Viator at Evanston. Loyola (25-2) plays No. 9 York at home Wednesday. In other team news, nine Ramblers were named to the Illinois High School Womens Lacrosse Association all-state team. They are: junior Riley Dolan, senior Mary Dooley, senior Brennan Dwyer, senior Katie Enrietto, senior Colleen Huffman, senior Madison Kane, senior Delaney Oliveira, senior Brennan O’Malley, senior Caroline Witkowski.

BOYS TENNIS: The doubles team of senior Nick Goschi and junior Thomas Sullivan qualified for the Class 2A state tournament by taking third place at the Niles North Sectional. Goschi and Sullivan play Naperville Central’s Bill Zhang and Martin Matov in the first round Thursday at Elk Grove. Hersey is the tournament host.
