For the second game in a row, the Ramblers got off to a good start on their way to a 14-7 win over Colorado Academy on Thursday in Denver.
Senior Madison Kane scored three of her team-high five goals as Loyola (11-2) opened up an early 5-0 lead. The Ramblers went into the half ahead 7-3. They led 12-3 before Colorado Academy, a defending state champion, made a run.
Senior Brennan Dwyer finished with four goals and three assists. Senior Colleen Huffman had one goal and one assist. Seven players scored.
Loyola plays St. Ignatius of San Francisco on Friday.
BOYS: In the opener of their trip to Upstate New York on Thursday, the Ramblers suffered a 5-4 loss to Victor Senior, a two-time defending state champion and brought a 50-game winning streak into the game.
Once again, the defense led the way. Sophomore goalie Dominic Urukalo made 11 saves.
Senior Chris Mancini scored two goals, while sophomores Najee Taylor and Timothy Hackett each scored one apiece. Taylor had an assist. Senior Billy Jardeleza won eight of 11 faceoffs.
Loyola (5-4) plays Ithaca Senior at Hobart College on Friday. All four of Loyola’s losses have been to teams out of state.
