Senior Nina Rutkowski finished first and two other Ramblers placed inside the top five to lead Loyola to the GCAC tournament title Thursday at Green Garden Country Club in Frankfort.

Rutkowski shot 72 to edge out teammate and senior Tatum Koehn for medalist honors. Koehn took second with 73. Sophomore Grace Kryscio shot 79 to finish fifth, and sophomore Mary Boesen carded an 80 to place sixth as the Ramblers posted 304.

Junior Shea Graf matched Boesen with an 80, and junior Lilly Gentzkow had an 86 to round out the lineup. Graf finished behind Boesen on a scorecard playoff.

Rutkowski was named the GCAC’s player of the year, and all six girls earned all-conference recognition.

“She’s been so consistent all year long,” Loyola head coach Carli McKenney said of Rutkowski. “It’s exciting to see her win player of the year. She certainly deserves it.”

While Rutkowski is the clear No. 1, McKenney said the Ramblers are a strong team due to its depth. Koehn, Kryscio and Graf all had their best rounds of the season Thursday.

“It’s really nice to know all six of our girls can put up scores to help our team,” Loyola head coach Carli McKenney said. “That’s awesome.”

Loyola tees it up Wednesday at the Class AA regional tournament at Sportsman’s Country Club in Northbrook. McKenney said the team plans to play practice rounds Saturday and Monday.

“We are playing well right now, but we talk a lot about not focusing on the end result,” McKenney said. “We constantly talk about the importance of every single swing. If we focus on that, the outcomes we want will come.”
