Loyola’s offensive struggles, which seemed to be a thing of the past, came back to haunt the Ramblers on Thursday in Chicago.
In the final game of the GCAC Red regular season, Loyola lost to Mother McAuley 34-30. The Ramblers finished 2-3 in league play. The tournament starts Jan. 28.
Loyola (16-7) led 15-14 at the half, but Mother McAuley (15-6, 3-2) went on an 11-2 run to end the third quarter to go ahead 28-22.
The Ramblers chipped away in the fourth, closing the gap to one, 28-27, on two free throws by sophomore guard Julia Martinez with 3 minutes, 3 seconds remaining. Senior guard Madison Kane’s 3-point play with 1:42 to go left the Ramblers down 32-30, but they didn’t score another point the rest of the way.
Loyola’s 30 points were the fewest since a 43-30 loss to Trinity on Dec. 13.
Senior forward Clare Nelson scored 11 points to lead the Ramblers. Kane and junior guard Erin Dillon each added six points apiece. Martinez finished with two points.
Loyola is off until it hosts Maine South on Jan. 25.
