The Ramblers led by as many as 19 in the second half Friday, but they had to hang on to beat Bogan 58-53 at New Trier.

Junior guard Julia Martinez made two field goals and 12 free throws to finish with a team-best 16 points. Senior forward and Georgetown-bound forward Lilly Wehman added 12 points, and junior forward Celia Satter scored 10. Senior guard Adie Morrill, who signed with John Carroll earlier this month, contributed seven points.

Loyola led 48-29 early in the third quarter and 51-38 heading into the fourth. The Bengals scored the first eight points of the final quarter to complete a 12-0 run to trim Loyola’s lead to five, 51-46.

Free throws by Martinez and Wehman enabled the Ramblers (3-1) to increase their advantage to 55-46 with 4 minutes, 10 seconds remaining. Bogan got within five again, but the Bengals never got within one possession.

“We came out moving the ball well, but we have to handle pressure better,” Loyola head coach Jeremy Schoenecker said. “We did not do a great job of finishing off the game, but a win is a win.”

Loyola plays Phillips at noon Sunday at home in the final game of the Thanksgiving tournament.
