Providence Catholic 17, Loyola 7

GAME RECAP: Despite scoring at the end of the first half, the Ramblers couldn’t overcome an early deficit in their Catholic Blue loss in New Lenox.

The Celtics scored on their first two possessions to go ahead 10-0 after the first quarter. They added another touchdown to take a 17-0 lead.

Running back Trevor Cabanban’s 20-yard run got the Ramblers (5-3) within 10, 17-7, at intermission.

While Loyola’s defense — led by linebackers Liam Conahan and Jake Holecek — shut out the Celtics in the second half, the offense couldn’t put up any points.

In his first start, safety Nico Green recovered a fumble. Loyola head coach Tony Minestra said cornerback Artist Benjamin and linebacker Frank Schurer also had productive games.

The Ramblers close out the season Saturday at home against Brother Rice.

COACH’S COMMENT: “We knew heading into the week we were in for a very physical game. I am proud of our attitude and effort, but we just didn’t make enough plays. We will re-group and re-focus for the week ahead and prepare to finish up the season on a high note next Saturday.” — Tony Minestra
