St. Rita 26, Loyola 13

GAME RECAP: Mistakes and missed opportunities resulted in the Ramblers’ loss to the Mustangs in a Catholic Blue game.

Despite a lengthy drive to start the game, Loyola couldn’t capitalize with points. St. Rita took advantage on its first series and eventually built a 13-0 lead.

Loyola got on the board with Trevor Cabanban’s touchdown run, which was set up by quarterback JP Gourley’s 40-yard pass on third down to receiver Phil Couri.

Down 13-7 at the half, the Ramblers put themselves in position to change the momentum on defensive back Kyle Zupec’s interception. But Loyola turned over the ball to end the threat.

After another takeaway, St. Rita went up 26-7.

Running back Tyler Flores scored Loyola’s final TD. Although Loyola linebacker Anthony Kozlowski recovered the onside kick, the Ramblers’ rally ended with a fourth-down sack.

COACH’S COMMENT: “This was a tough night. St. Rita has been impressive this season, and we knew we had to play well to win against a quality conference opponent. [St. Rita] played with a lot of confidence, and we didn’t quite match the energy. We’ll use this opportunity to get better and re-focus for the stretch run.” — Tony Minestra
