Seniors Paolo Tiongson and Andrew Niewiarowski each earned wins Sunday at the University of Chicago as Loyola took second place at the Chicago Catholic League’s indoor conference championship meet.

The Ramblers totaled 92 points to trail Providence Catholic, which finished with 99.

Tiongson finished first in the 3,200 meters in 9 minutes, 30.10 seconds, beating the runner-up by more than eight seconds. Niewiarowski won the 800 in 1:59.20, more than two seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

The foursome of senior William Shortal, junior Marc Daly, junior Luke Phillips and sophomore Eli Miller won the 4×800 relay team in 8.35.11.

Other highlights on the track included, Niewiarowski and Tiongson taking 2-3 in the 1,600 race. Niewiarowski finished in 4:30.12, while Tiongson clocked a 4:31.55.

In the field, junior Declan Ritzenthaler took second in the pole vault with a mark of 14-0. Senior Ted Falkenhayn, who has committed to University of Chicago for track and field, finished fourth in high jump at 5-9.
