According to head coach Tom Livatino, the Ramblers played their best game of the season Saturday in a 58-37 win over Lincoln Park at home to take third place at the New Trier/Loyola Thanksgiving Tournament.

Loyola (3-1) went into the half ahead 32-9, and its lead wasn’t threatened in the final two quarters.

“We have gotten better in each game, and that is what you want,” Livatino said. “I think this sets us up for a good year.”

Senior forward Pete Mangan scored a team-high 13 points, while senior guard Kevin Cunningham and junior guard Connor Barrett each added 12 points apiece. Cunningham also had seven assists and took two charges. Sophomore forward Jordan Kwiecinski finished with seven rebounds.

Cunningham and Barrett both were named to the all-tournament team.

Livatino said first-year varsity players Barrett, Kwiecinski, sophomore forward Bennett Kwiecinski — Jordan’s twin — and junior guard Ryan Evans all showed improvement in the first week of the season. He also remarked that senior forward Vahe Kalayjian continues to progress toward becoming a major contributor.

“The first phase is over,” Livatino said. “The next phase is when the football players join us Monday. We have a lot of moving parts right now, but that’s OK.”
