BOYS: In his second varsity game, junior guard Connor Barrett scored a team-high 23 points Tuesday as the Ramblers held on at the end for a 50-47 win at home over University High.
Senior guard Kevin Cunningham scored five of his seven points in the closing minute to help secure the victory. He also had seven assists and four rebounds. Senior forward Pete Mangan pitched in 10 points.
“Connor gave us a big boost when we needed it,” Loyola head coach Tom Livatino said. “He can shoot the ball at a big-time clip, but he can do a lot more than that. He’s going to be an important player for us.”
Livatino said he was happier with how the Ramblers (2-0) played against the Maroons than they did against Von Steuben.
“Slightly better,” he said. “We guarded slightly better. We are struggling with our offense, running our offense, getting good shots, valuing possessions.”
Loyola plays New Trier on Wednesday in Winnetka.
GIRLS: The Ramblers rebounded from a 65-59 loss to New Trier to beat Harlan 72-68 on Tuesday in Chicago.
Junior forward Celia Satter scored a career-best 32, beating her old mark of 28 set in the season opener. Senior guard Erin Dillon and sophomore forward Addison Ebeling each added 13 points apiece. Junior guard Julia Martinez contributed seven points, nine rebounds, 12 assists, four steals and two blocks.
Loyola (2-1) plays Bogan on Friday at New Trier.
