This will be a weekly feature that alternates highlighting players from the boys and girls varsity basketball teams.
Expectations are very high for Loyola senior guard Ramar Evans.
The three-year varsity veteran is a captain, the team’s best all-around player and undeniably the face of the Ramblers.
“He’s understanding more and more what it means to be a leader,” Loyola head coach Tom Livatino said after Tuesday’s 53-38 win over St. Viator. “I think he’s had his biggest impact over the last three days [Sunday, Monday, Tuesday]. We have seen a lot of growth. He understands our expectations of him.”
The coaches said he played his second best game of the season Tuesday. Although he scored four points, he had 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Livatino said he also impacted the game in ways that weren’t represented with numbers.
“He played like a leader,” he said. “He was under control, powerful and multi-dimensional. He simply led us, and that’s what winners do.”
Evans’ best game came Nov. 22 in Loyola’s 62-36 win over Lincoln Park when he finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. He also went 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Through eight games, Evans leads the Ramblers in scoring (12.9), rebounding (6.5), assists (4.1) deflections (4.1) and steals (1.9). He has signed with Division II Maryville University in St. Louis.
